I had fun yesterday evening adding more rounds to a Tessa's Triangles hexagon. Are the lines through the center too thick?
I can't recommend black yarn in the evening btw. I had to borrow a waist light and hang around my neck (it's like a belt for runners). 🧐🔦 I got a little stiff in the neck from trying to sit still, so the light didn't forget to point in the right direction.
I might try something else tonight 💡 😉

Even if you have a hook that likes waistcoat stitches, you might need to practice. I did, when I started playing around with ws.
Tips for practice: 🧶🪄
[Photo 1] make a one colored sample.
[Photo 2] exchange the ws in rnd 1 with loose(!) sc. (Make ws from rnd 2.) - and exchange ss with chains in rnd 1 too if you want.
Once you get used to the waistcoat stitches it gets a lot easier.
Anita also has a tip for adding a stitch marker, so it helps you find were to insert the hook in the next round. It's a clever little brain teaser. Have a look at @anitareinehr

Sry, for yesterday's post. It was - of course - April 1st. 🤪
BUT, I have a very good tip!
I was worried about my crochet hook being confiscated by airport security when traveling.
So, I bought three hooks. 🪝🪝🪝
I kept one in my handbag and packed the other two as backups in my larger luggage. This way, if one hook got taken on the way out and another on the way back, I’d still be able to work on my crochet project while I was away and when I got back home.
Worst-case scenario? You end up with three hooks.
P.S. I came home with three hooks. They survived a journey that included 1 ferry, 1 bus, 3 airplanes, 2 rental cars, and stays in 6 different places before returning home via 2 airplanes, a bus, 1 ferry, and a friendly neighbor who kindly picked us up (thankfully).

I visited these lovely girls and guy last month in New Zealand - what a fantastic part of the world! I love the stunning nature, the friendly people, and the warm, sunny weather.
It had been 12 years since my last visit, and I noticed fewer sheep-filled fields and a lot more cows. Rumor has it, dairy is the bigger business now - I just hope NZ keeps some of its iconic sheep around.
Unfortunately, I didn’t come across many yarn shops on my visit - I guess, we stayed too far from the bigger cities.
What did I miss? Does anyone know about any New Zealand yarn and where to find it?
I can’t wait to visit again <3

I love the stripes, and if the yarn is right, there’s a little perk: when you stretch it lengthwise, a ribbing effect appears. However, only a few of the yarns I tried gave that result - most just show the stripes.

The purl can be a little tricky to get even, I think. When a purl comes after a knit stitch I give the purl a little tug to avoid a gap between them.

Find the bauble pattern on www.stonegnome.com. 🧶 After completing rounds 1-12, continue with the instructions below (instead of 'Final Round').
13) With colored yarn. Make waistcoat stitch decreases all the way (6)
Slst and cut the colored yarn. Pull the yarn through the loop. Secure ends, a little knot using the white and colored yarn should be fine.
Tug the loose ends into the bauble.
SWIPE NOTE. It is ok if there are gaps between the last round of stitches. Just make sure they are closed after the next round.

🧢 THE CAP 🧢
Use a 3-3.5 mm (US D3-E4 or steel 0-00) hook and golden yarn.
Attach the yarn by inserting the hook between the legs of the last waistcoat stitch (as if doing a new waistcoat stitch), yarn-over and pull through. This doesn’t count as a stitch.
To hide the loose end of the golden yarn, crochet around it for the next rounds.
Make 2 rounds of waistcoat stitches.
Slip stitch into next stitch, cut a long yarn end and pull through the last loop. Tighten the last slst.
➰ Create a loop for hanging the ornament. ➰
Attach a needle to the yarn end. Insert the needle into the next stitch and out in the middle of the cap.
While leaving most of the golden yarn to form a large loop, bring the needle back into the cap's center, and out at the bottom of the cap, then reinserting it right next to the initial point.
Tie a knot using the large loop and the short loose yarn end. Tuck the knot and the yarn end into the cap to hide it.
Voilà!

It has been Father’s Day ❤️ in Denmark today and later in June, it will be Father’s Day in a lot more places around the world.
My father was my big hero when I was a little girl. He had so many skills and loved well-crafted and homemade items. He patiently shared whatever I wanted to learn.

Waistcoat stitches study. How do you crochet them when working in rounds?
GEEK ALERT: I LOVE these heart-shaped stitches 💙
- Img 1 is a little sample where I inserted the hook between the legs of the previous stitch and then went in BETWEEN the bars at the back of the stitch.
Swipe to img 2 and see, what it looks like from behind. Looking closer, this might explain why the stitches tilt? 🤔
- Img 3 is a sample, where I inserted the hook before the bars at the back.
Swipe to img 4 to see the reverse side of it.
Method 1 is stretchy but has also a kind of firmness. It might be good for Amigurumi.
I prefer method 2. It seems stretchier and the texture seems softer (maybe it's just me?). Plus the stitches don't tilt. This is the kind of waistcoat stitches I love.

Did you ever use nylon with an amigurumi project?
I just came to think of a little tip for amigurumi - that not everyone knows about. 😊
To be sure, the stuffing doesn't try to escape the amigurumi or show between the stitches, you can use a piece of nylon.
Tie a knot in one end and turn the piece inside out. Insert the nylon into your shape and fill it there.
Depending on the shape, tie another knot at the other end too, or give it a couple of stitches.

The chocolate eggs I'm working on here seem safe. So I didn't use nylon this time. If I were to make one of heavier yarn, I would defintely use nylon.

It would have been helpful when making the second wing here, as the wings have a couple of ridges on the front side. And they are - of course - supposed to be mirrored.
I borrowed a Tunisian way of doing reverse stitches. It's not the working-in-the-reverse-direction approach (the crab stitch), but a work-from-the-reverse-side solution.

#scheepjescatona is a little heavy for something like this, but it works well, I think.
I've added two tiny notes to the pattern.
The first is right after finishing the small heart and getting ready for the big heart.
The other is how to join the two hearts at the bottom tip in a neat way.

A few days ago I heard a little girl being sad, that she might not receive a heart on Valentine's Day. Happily, I think she understood that it is a bit early to be concerned about Valentine's Day when you are only 7y old.
Anyway, sometimes we have to make our own hearts if we want them. And sometimes we should make someone else happy by giving away 💝 a little love.

I will avoid cleaning 🥳
AND I will find time to crochet. 🧶 My arm is better. 😊 Not feeling broken, though it does feel sprained, which it might be (I think). BUT, I actually managed to crochet a little already before the woodcast was removed. YEAH! So feeling confident.
🧶👉 This funny yarn* is now becoming a scarf for my little girl. 🧣 The stitches are Tunisian Top Stitches*. These are easier to work with, if you need to feel your way into the stitches. (And the stitches are good for bulky yarn too).
PLUS. Tunesian crochet seemed to be easy on my arm. 🤔😄

#yarnspiration . I got this great package from @littlebugz.dk lately. I needed at least two red colors and 1-2 green ones for a poinsettia.
Which red ones would you aim at (any colors)? Two warm red colors or more crimson-burgundy (bordeaux like) red ones?
It is difficult to see the difference of the reds on a photo. I was hoping there would be more difference between the two warm red ones. One being darker than the other.
With a little luck a darker red suddenly appears among the huge amount of #scheepjescatona colors already present 🙂

Now what to do on those rainy 🌧️ dark winter days before Xmas?
X-ray showed a fracture 💔, so doctors wrapped me up like a package and told me to look like this for 4 weeks. 😱
I spent yesterday with rest and a little voluntary work, trying to pretend nothing happened.
Once I'm over the first phase of healing I might tidy up old yarn 🧶 and old files or maybe find a quick knit thingy if my yarn addiction gets intolerable.
Now could also be a good time to figure out how to crochet with my left hand 🙂

Tricky Triangles mandala. (Big) Red version. 🍭
Did you notice? There is one round of triangles less here compared to the Peppermint & Licorice (swipe to see). It's slightly bigger though as the yarn is heavier and the hook is size 8mm.
The red yarn is what I used when I worked on the new techniques for the mandala. I love the colors, but they are also very, very difficult to take photos of.
(Which gave me a reason and excuse for making the black/white version too 😊 )
The lovely yarn supported all my trial-and-errors well and is another of my favorites. It's Scheepjes Merino Soft. And it really is soft.

The colors made me think SO much of a certain kind of candy. I had a hard time finding it, but swipe to see it 😄
Another kind of candy here is the yarn. 🧶 I love working with it. It is Scheepjes Organicon (almond color) and Scheepjes Bamboo Soft grey and dark grey. Both types of yarn are very soft. They also go together well even though the yardage is not exactly the same.

I had fun yesterday evening adding more rounds to a Tessa's Triangles hexagon. Are the lines through the center too thick?
I can't recommend black yarn in the evening btw. I had to borrow a waist light and hang around my neck (it's like a belt for runners). 🧐🔦 I got a little stiff in the neck from trying to sit still, so the light didn't forget to point in the right direction.

Tessa's Triangles. Hexagon Samples. Just to practice the waistcoat stitches (ws).🤔 🤗 .
Even if you have a hook that likes waistcoat stitches, you might need to practice. I did, when I started playing around with ws.
Tips for practice: 🧶🪄
[Photo 1] make a one colored sample.
[Photo 2] exchange the ws in rnd 1 with loose(!) sc. (Make ws from rnd 2.) - and exchange ss with chains in rnd 1 too if you want.
Once you get used to the waistcoat stitches it gets a lot easier.
Anita also has a tip for adding a stitch marker, so it helps you find were to insert the hook in the next round. It's a clever little brain teaser. Have a look at @anitareinehr

Sry, for yesterday's post. It was - of course - April 1st. 🤪
BUT, I have a very good tip!
I was worried about my crochet hook being confiscated by airport security when traveling.
So, I bought three hooks. 🪝🪝🪝
I kept one in my handbag and packed the other two as backups in my larger luggage. This way, if one hook got taken on the way out and another on the way back, I’d still be able to work on my crochet project while I was away and when I got back home.
Worst-case scenario? You end up with three hooks.
P.S. I came home with three hooks. They survived a journey that included 1 ferry, 1 bus, 3 airplanes, 2 rental cars, and stays in 6 different places before returning home via 2 airplanes, a bus, 1 ferry, and a friendly neighbor who kindly picked us up (thankfully).
